and other goodness that is J.J. Abrams

I know it has been a few weeks since it came out, but I really enjoyed Cloverfield. The camera was shaky, but that was the point! My husband did end up getting a headache, though. Anyway, what a fun movie. The party scene at the beginning was fairly engaging, enough so that I almost forgot what was about to happen. It was great how we got to see a lot of stuff, but there were still moments when I was screaming in my head, "turn the camera!" I hope they do a sequel or a spin-off show. There's so much viral marketing for the movie that they have many elements of a narrative already in place.

J.J. Abrams has a knack for giving you just enough to capture your interest and answering your questions with even more questions. A lot of people have given up on Lost, but now that I know there will only be 3 more seasons (starting this week), I'm confident that they have an endgame in mind. I'm just going to enjoy the ride to the finish.

I'm also looking forward to his take on Star Trek. I'm enough of a Star Trek fan to consider myself a Trekkie, but not too crazy. I've recently gotten into watching the remastered episodes of the original series, and they are just so fun. I love the push and pull and give and take between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. The corniness is fantastic and seeing Bill Shatner so young and in his prime is wonderful, especially since I'm a fan of Boston Legal. Even Boston Legal gives a shout out to Trek fans on occasion by casting actors who have been in Trek in the past. I have faith that J.J. is going to re-energize the series with his movie. And some of the casting has been very interesting.

OK, enough of my rambling, until next time! Peace!

I haven't seen Cloverfield, but the ads are scary enough, makes it quite exciting. Thanks for not giving any spoilers! I love Star Trek too. It will be interesting to see what happens with Abram's movie!

I saw Cloverfield last weekend and have to say it is one of the scariest (good) movies I've seen in ages. The cast of relative unknowns really did a stunning job of keeping the tension going. I can hardly wait to see where this story goes.

Cloverfield... an exercise in pretentious, art-fart 'camera technique'; tedious, utterly uninteresting characters (whom I'm happy to say died to the last one); special effects that reminded me of Doctor Who at its 1960s worst; a plot that consists of screaming and little else; dialogue that amounts to "I'm a yuppy, you're a yuppy; oh shit we are now dead yuppies"; and a 'monster' that might well have been impressive had anyone ever seen it.

But I will say this for the 'monster': it has surpring abilities when it comes to shrinking heads - as with the head of the Statue of Liberty which, when removed, shrinks to the size of a compact European car.

And this tedious trash actually managed to frighten you people?

Oh, and one last observation. Why is it that when seen from a distance the monster appears as tall as the Empire State Building, but when seen in close up by the charater 'Hud' (whom I would have been happy to watch being eviscerated in the first minute or two of the movie) the head of the thing appears no larger than that of a smaller-than-average Rottweiler?

What, is it some sort of pinhead?

An extra-terrestrial pinhead with a fondness for eating talentless wannabe actors and ambitions to level New York?

GOOOOOOOO pinhead!!!

Well, someone out there liked it , because they're planning a sequel.

What ever happened to going to the movies just to get away for a little while and have fun?

Wow, that's an expensive movie theatre, bummer about those annoying people too.

I don't know if you have AMC theatres in your area (chances are you do), but you can go to the movies Monday through Thursday all day for $6 a seat. Not to mention matinee shows at other theatres for $5 if you go between 4pm and 6pm.

On top of that, most theatres have a rewards program (like AMC, again) that give you free popcorn during the week and free stuff every so often.

I'm definitely in agreement, $42.50 is a lot for a night at the movies! That's why I don't pay that much. There's an alternate, much cheaper option, unless you live in the city, then I think you're stuck no matter what, from what I hear.
